What is this all about?
VolleyPro has been founded with the sole ambition of helping young volleyball athletes reach their goals of playing professional volleyball overseas.
VolleyPro is founded by me, Tim Middlehurst. I am a kiwi volleyballer who had these same goals once upon a time, and after much exploration eventually found a pathway to European indoor leagues.
In my experience, it is difficult for young volleyball athletes to understand where volleyball can take them, and how to get there. I want to create predictable, transparent opportunities for our players.
New Zealand does not have an established professional league domestically, and is geographically and culturally distant from most leagues in Europe and Asia. We have historically not had a programme that facilitates a pathway to these leagues.
For these reasons, a career in indoor volleyball can feel like a far-off prospect for our ambitious high-school players.
VolleyPro seeks to make this pathway much easier to find.
VolleyPro is a pathway programme - combining relationships with overseas professional clubs with a tailored preparatory academy designed to ensure our athletes succeed once placed.
The academy is designed to prepare our school-leavers for this journey. Taking 4-6 athletes each year, the Academy will provide an 18-month preparatory period, focussing on bringing these athletes up to the technical, physical and mental levels needed to succeed in professional leagues where performance is required - week in, week out.
The academy will begin its first intake from 2027. For more information on this academy, read our related blog post.
